Winter Babywearing

Any carrier can be used inside your coat for winter babywearing. Our favorite carrier for newborns is a wrap. We simply put the baby in the wrap, then put our coat on top of the wrap and zip the coat over the baby (if there is room). Even if your coat won't close, baby will be kept warm from being next to your body.

When our children were small, we would put on a Moby wrap and pop the baby in and out while sitting in the back seat of the car. I never used really warm clothing with my winter baby, I would simply dress him as for indoors and put him in the wrap, inside my coat when we were outside.

For an older child, a pouch or ring sling can be used to carry the baby on your hip. If you need the support of a wrap, your wrap can then be tied over the pouch for support. Put the baby in the pouch (quickly) when you get out of the car, walk in the store, then tie the wrap in the store, that way, you minimize the time baby is outside.
