Carrying Twins

Newborns twins and preemies can often share one pouch or sling. They will sit in the cradle position with their feet intertwined.

Newborns and very small infants can also be held side by side in one wrap or ring sling in the tummy to tummy position.

Older babies are best carried in 2 separate carriers.
  • Pouch or ring slings crossed (one over each shoulder)
  • Mei Tai - one on front & one on back (best for children over 4 months)
  • 2 wraps - both on front, one on each hip, or one on front and back
  • Combination of one wrap and one Mei Tai.
Carrying 2 children different ages is best accomplished in 2 separate carriers. Carrying the heavier/older child on the back and the younger in the front is usually the easiest.

It is possible to carry 2 older children in one wrap, but we much prefer for each child to have their own carrier - much easier to tie and easier to get the children in and out. And you don't have to worry about the weight on one straining the other.

If you do choose to use only one carrier for children past the newborn stage, you will want to get the largest size wrap.
